California African American Museum - CAAM

The California African American Museum mission is to research, collect, preserve, and interpret for public enrichment the history, art, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States.  CAAM was founded in 1977 and was formally opened in 1981 and houses over 4,000 objects that span landscape painting and portraiture, modern and contemporary art, historical objects and print materials, and mixed-media artworks.
